  • May Fair ... and the sun came out!

    Mon 22 May 2017

The sun shone and hundreds of pupils, parents, families and friends enjoyed a wonderful afternoon at Stanley’s May Fair.

Well done to FOSP for organising such a tremendous event and thank-you to everyone who helped on the day and also to everyone who turned up and contributed to raise much needed funds for the school.

The number of stalls and prizes was very impressive as were the range of refreshments … it was such a glorious day that the Ice Cream Van and Pimm’s tent usually had longer queues than the Coffee Shop!

The Display Area and stage hosted many entertaining acts – thank-you to Boundless Dance, Stagecoach, Year 2 Country Dancers and the Stanley Rock Bands. However, some of the biggest cheers on the day greeted the success (or failure!) of Mr Dickinson’s teams in the fiercely contested Tug of War competitions.

  • May Fair bunting winners

    Fri 19 May 2017

Congratulations to our budding artists whose May Fair bunting designs were selected as the best in their year.

The competition was fierce and the judging panel, our Year 6 House Captains, had a difficult job choosing the winners. The winners were each presented with a £5 WH Smith voucher and their designs were proudly displayed above the Reception desk on Friday before joining all the other impressive designs created by the whole school to make the May Fair more colourful than ever.

The winners, pictured below with Mr Dickinson, are:

  • Girls football team runners-up

    Fri 12 May 2017

Year 4/5 girls represented the school in the Kingston and Richmond tournament – they played really well and finished runners-up. Here is Coach Andy’s report:

We we're placed in the Group C with Queens, Castle Hill, Ellingham, Christ Church (New Malden) and Latchmere.

First game was against Castle Hill winning 9-0 what a start! We continued to win all our remaining games and drawing one game in our group. We finished top of the group scoring 18 conceding 1 goal. And qualified for the knockout quarter-finals playing Tolworth girls.

This was a very tough game with Tolworth taking a early lead. This was a real test as Stanley found themselves 0-1 down for the first time in the tournament. The girls tried endlessly hitting the post three times. Was it going to be Stanley Girls Day? Definitely Clem got a goal which meant the game went to penalties. We scored all three and unfortunately Tolworth missed one so onto the semi-finals.

Up next we're East Sheen which was an end to end game with both teams playing very well. The game ended 0-0 and to be honest both teams didn't deserve to lose. On to penalties knowing we had a great chance with goalkeeper Grace. Olivia and Clem both scored our penalties and Grace saved two of East Sheen’s!

So on to the final against Sheen Mount where the girls unfortunately lost 2-0 but were a credit to Stanley school they all played so well and were very sporting throughout the day. This was a great achievement as most of the girls were playing a competitive game for the first time.

That's three years we made the final! Hopefully next year we can go on and be Champions.

Well done Grace, Lucy, Sophie, Clem, Olivia, Maddie and Elizabeth. - Coach Andy

  • Year 2 and Year 4 Topslink Sports Festivals

    Fri 12 May 2017

Year 2 and Year 4 pupils enjoyed taking part in Topslink Sports Festivals at Waldegrave School as part of the Schools Sports Programme. Despite cold weather for Year 2 and some rain for Year 4 the boys and girls enjoyed competing with other schools in a range of activities. Reports from the organisers said our pupils were very involved on the day, put in some impressive performances and were very well behaved … a credit to the school.

  • Reception visit Bocketts Farm

    Fri 12 May 2017

As part of Reception’s topic about young animals and exploration pupils went on a trip to Bocketts Farm in April. The boys and girls had lots of fun as well as learning more about the animals they saw as well as how a farm works. The pupils were able to handle some of the animals, helped to milk a goat and enjoyed a tractor ride. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed their visit … some even wanted to bring the animals back on the coach!

Here are some of the pupils’ comments on the day:

I liked stroking the rabbit … The goat was the best but I don’t want its milk! … The hens were noisy … I want to be a farmer
