  • Stanley leads the way in Hampton Hill parade!

    Thu 05 Dec 2013
A big thank you to everyone who participated in the Hampton Hill Christmas parade on Friday 29 November 2013. Stanley was the largest contingent, and definitely had the best banner! The children accessorised their school uniform with items of Christmassy fancy dress as they paraded together. It was a lovely community event and it was great to have Stanley at the heart of it.
  • Famous authors to visit Stanley

    Tue 03 Dec 2013

As part of our work to increase reading for enjoyment across the school, we are delighted to confirm that two famous children’s authors will be visiting Stanley in January 2014.

On Tuesday 28 January 2014, Ian Whybrow will be working with Nursery, Reception and Years 1 - 3 (http://www.ianwhybrow.com/books/). Ian has written over 100 books including the ‘Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs’ series, the ‘Say Hello to the Animals’ series, the ‘Little Wolf’ series and the ‘Meerkat Madness’ saga. The day will include story times, workshops for years 2 and 3 and a 'meet the author' session for parents.

On Thursday 30 January 2014, Alan Gibbons will be working with years 4 - 6 (http://www.alangibbons.com/books.htm). Alan's book 'Shadow of the Minotaur' won the Blue Peter Book Award 2000 for 'The book I couldn't put down'. He has written lots of books, mostly aimed at upper KS2 and KS3, many of which address hard-hitting themes such as domestic abuse, racism and the use of guns. He has also written humorous books, and horror stories.

On both of these days, Waterstones will run bookstalls to sell books before school, so that authors can sign them at lunchtime, and then after school so that you can wait with your children for book signings. Please put these dates into your diaries and let your children know about these exciting visits!
