Learning with Confidence Together
As you know, we are not able to perform our Christmas shows and carol concerts as usual this year, instead the children have been learning songs and rehearsing for a very different kind of performance.
We will be releasing items throughout December as an 'Advent Calendar' for our Stanley families to enjoy at home. We hope you enjoy them ... the first to perform are Year 1 singing In the Bleak Midwinter

Merry Christmas from all at Stanley!
Our values education project involves teaching the children 8 values throughout the year, and having a rewards system to praise those children who adhere to these values.
The values are: Aspiration, Cooperation, Courage, Gentleness, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Tolerance. Each week we give special certificates to those children who demonstrate good values, and these are given to the children in their assemblies. Courage was the value since early October and Gentleness is the value from 16 November.
We also have Star of the Week awards which are also presented to the "star" of each class every week. The "stars" are selected by teachers and go to children who have done something very speccial.
We used to (pre-Covid) display the award winners certificates in the reception area but, as parents cannot come into this area now, we are featuring a number of our award winners here ... we also publish a list of all the winners each week in our newsletter.
Pictured below are some of our award winners from the last two weeks ... congratulations to you!
Stanley Primary School held a Remembrance service around the War Memorial on the school site. Year 6 were the only year group to be at the service but every class “attended” the service as it was live streamed to all their classrooms and the whole school observed the two-minute silence.
Mr Hawley talked about Walter Brown, a Stanley teacher who was killed in the First World War, whose picture we put on the memorial each year and read the poem For the Fallen
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
Amber and Leon put a wreath and the picture of Walter Brown on the memorial and the Last Post was played by Elliot, Megan, Raffi, Theo and Charlie.
We have not been able to have collection boxes in school this year and we are aware that this year has been difficult for all charities. If you would like to support the British Legion Poppy appeal click on the link below:
https://www.britishlegion.org.uk/get-involved/ways-to-give/donateThank you to a group of heroic FOSP volunteers who have made the school look a lot brighter after their gardening work this week!
Headed up by Nina Sletten and Sarah Chipperfield, a small (Covid secure) group worked hard on Saturday clearing, weeding and planting in the Living Classroom and planters throughout the school – which means the one way system through school is looking beautiful!
Another superstar is Katie Lee who has worked hard behind the scenes building shelves, cleaning and sorting the FOSP shed. For those of you who know how hectic that shed can get will appreciate the wonderful work Katie has done in there!
Thank you gardeners and FOSP not just for your gardening but for all the great initiatives that are coming through … it is much appreciated and provides a great bonus for children at Stanley.
During "normal times" we organise Open Events when prospective parents can visit the school on a number of days from September. Due to COVID-19 we are, unfortunately, not able to do this.
The Open Events we had planned on the following days are now cancelled following the announcement of a second lockdown :
Tuesday 3rd November 2020 - cancelled
Tuesday 17th November 2020 - cancelled
Tuesday 1st December 2020 - cancelled
We regret that we have had to cancel our planned Open Evenings due to the second lockdown.
As an alternative we will be inviting prospective parents to take part in a remote online group Question and Answer session with Simon Hawley, Headteacher. Dates are to be confirmed.
Please follow this link to register your interest; we will be in touch once we have fixed dates for these sessions:

NB If you had previously booked to attend one of the cancelled Open Evenings, there is no need to complete the above form; we will contact you with regards the Q&A sessions.

During Lockdown Oliver, who was in 3MC at the time and is now in Year 4, wrote a brilliant letter to Blue Peter asking how he could earn a Blue Peter badge, explaining what he was doing and how much he’d like to visit exciting places after lockdown ... a Blue Peter badge would get him into some of these exciting places!
Blue Peter were obviously impressed with Oliver’s letter and he was sent a Blue Peter badge … he’s really pleased and looking forward to lots of days out!
We are looking forward to welcoming all children back to school for the start of a new school year.
