Learning with Confidence Together
A Year 6 team travelled to Glasgow this week to compete in the popular CBBC quiz Top Class hosted by Susan Calman.
Eliza in Year 6 came up with the idea of entering Top Class. Following a rigorous application process and interviews, which included general knowledge questions, with the production company, the team were selected to appear in the quiz and filming took place in Glasgow w/c 21 May and will be screened later this year.
The team have been revising and “training” for both the quiz and their SATS! Their SATS are over now and they are looking forward to the competition.
This is what they said:
'I'm exhilarated and exceptionally excited; I'm extremely eager for the experience to begin. However, bubbling under the surface are, of course, the nerves which are causing several butterflies to flutter in my stomach.' - Eliza
'I'm extremely excited about having the chance to be able to participate in this show and represent my school.' - Declan
Good luck to the team: Eliza W, Mia T, Declan G, Flynn H, Arthur M, Ms Luing Turnbull and Mr Watson.
We’ll let you know how the quiz went and when you can see our “TV stars” as soon as we can!
In early May Year 4 visited Verulamium Museum, St Albans as part of their Creative Curriculum topic, The Romans.
The trip, and the topic generally, highlighted the impact of the Romans on Britain. Verulamium was the third largest city of Roman Britain and the museum stands on the site of the Roman town.
The children were able to handle real Roman artefacts and learnt how the people of Roman Verulamium lived, built their homes, cooked and what they ate. They also saw a hypocaust, a Roman central heating system and the mosaics covering it.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the trip, including the journey on a double decker bus! … and now know a lot more about the Romans too.
Stanley's May Fair on Sunday 20 May was a great success with children, parents, friends and teachers all enjoying a great day in glorious sunshine.
As well as a great range of stalls and games there was an impressive Fancy Dress Parade and the opportunity to soak teachers, including Mr Dickinson, in the stocks. The traditional tug-of-war was very keenly fought ... so much so that the strength of both teams snapped the rope on the deciding pull!
More leisurely activities were centred around the BBQ and Pimms tent and listening to children singing in the choir and performing on the stage.
Well done to FOSP for organising such a fantastic day and thank you to everyone who came along, our helpers and our sponsors.
STEM Week (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) has started and will run throughout w/c Monday 21 May. Children will be taking part in activities related to these STEM subjects including high-quality, fun and interactive workshops led by specialist.
The first workshop with Year 1 covered Architecture and saw some very impressive construction work.
Workshops planned for the week are:
Building Mayan Temples, Stonehenge, Kites, Electricity and Rockets
Congratulations to the following children whose impressive flag designs were judged to be the winners in the May Fair competition. Thank you to the Year 2 judges had a difficult task but did a very good job.
