  • Remembrance - 100th Anniversary

    Fri 09 Nov 2018

The School held a Remembrance Service on Friday 9 November as we do each year. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Armistice and we were joined by a number of local dignitaries and relatives of five of the men commemorated on the school’s memorial. We were particularly pleased to be joined by a relative of Walter Brown, a Stanley teacher who was killed in the First World War, whose picture we put on the memorial each year.

Headteacher, Ian Dickinson led the service which included children placing 67 commemorative pebbles on the memorial, representing every man commemorated.

The Last Post was played by members of the school’s brass group before the two minutes silence at 11am.

Wreaths were laid on the memorial as the children sang Dona Nobis Pachem.

  • Rory's Mini Mudder challenge for Peartree

    Tue 06 Nov 2018

Rory Walker, whose brother Bradley is part of The Peartree Centre, has raised just over £500 for Sandpiper class by taking part in a Mini Mudder challenge at the end of September.

Rory wanted to raise money for his brother's school and came into Peartree on Monday afternoon, with his Mum, to present us with a cheque. We were really pleased to be able to thank him in person - and we're looking forward to buying some great new play items for Sandpiper class.

    Thank you, Rory!

  • Nasen Award for Stanley

    Tue 06 Nov 2018

We are delighted to have won the Nasen Excellent Practice in Primary School Award and were presented with the award by Vanessa Feltz at Nasen’s Award evening in London in October.

Stanley Primary School were nominated for this award by the mother of Alexander, a Peartree pupil at Stanley. The nomination outlined the fantastic work that Peartree do and how well Alexander was welcomed and supported by all. Stanley was Alexander’s 8th school placement and, following his time in the specialist unit there, he and his peers are accepted unequivocally as members of the mainstream school. His comments in the Year 6 Leavers book stated that whilst he will miss his Specialist Unit, he considers his biggest achievement to have been to “fit into the school” as a whole.

Ian Dickinson, Headteacher at Stanley, said: “We are delighted to receive this national award which recognises the great work that the Peartree Centre does as well as how hard everyone here works to make sure that children like Alexander do really, as he said – fit into the school as a whole.”

Sam Proctor (Assistant Headteacher) and Katy Stannett (SENCO) attended the presentation evening

to receive the award on the school's behalf – pictured with the Award evening’s host Vanessa Feltz.

Nasen (National Association of Special Educational Needs) is a charity who promote the advancement and development of all individuals with SEND/ALN.
