Year 1

Overview

Year 1 is an exciting and important stage in your child’s learning journey, where curiosity, independence, and confidence continue to grow.

Our Year 1 team is led by two dedicated and enthusiastic teachers, Miss Ringland and Mrs Costello, who work closely together to create a nurturing and engaging environment for all pupils.

Miss Ringland teaches Chestnut Class, where she inspires children through creative, hands-on learning experiences that encourage exploration and a love of discovery.

Alongside her, Mrs Costello teaches Apple Class, providing a supportive and structured setting where children are encouraged to develop key skills in reading, writing, and mathematics while building strong friendships.

Both teachers are passionate about ensuring every child feels valued and supported, and they carefully plan a broad and balanced curriculum that builds on the foundations from Reception while preparing pupils for the challenges ahead. Through a mixture of play-based learning, practical activities, and more formal lessons, our Year 1 classes help children grow in confidence, develop independence, and foster a lifelong love of learning.
