ARThouse Exhibition a Triumph

arthouse_171.jpgChildren and staff took part in the borough’s ARThouse exhibition in June. The school is proud of its achievements in art and every child in the school produced a piece of artwork for the exhibition.

The theme in the Infant building was ‘A Splash of Colour’ and the school hall was transformed into a wonderful display of colour with all sorts of artwork including collages, batiks, clay models and an amazing giant rainbow by some of the youngest children in Reception classes.  A giant lime was part of the green colour corner and children from Pear Tree class created a sea and beach scene complete with deckchair. Digital and photographic medium was also used to create inspired shadow photos and PaintBox faces.

The Junior school building had a similar theme of ‘Colour Creations’ and visitors to the exhibition were amazed by the variety and quality of the artwork produced. There were 3-D models, aboriginal art, mosaics, sewn work and a stunning Indian mango fabric hanging. Bridget Riley inspired black and white illusion paintings that played tricks with the eyes were a particular visitor favourite. Children also worked with local artist and parent Stephanie Wilkinson (www.stephaniewilkinson.co.uk/swhome.htm) to create unique individual and group paintings, which along with an original painting by Stephanie, were auctioned and raised an impressive £450.
